OurWorldTalks - July 30, 2008 - 11:12

The animation on the feature was truly groundbreaking at the time, featuring the first use of motion blur in CG animation.

I came across this video on http://www.Digg.com. It was one of the most talked about video there and I popped by to check out just what the fus was all about. I mean animated short firlm made in 1984 can
t be that great right? yes?

Just a little background so that we can appreciate the film you are about to see more. Back in 1984, I was just a baby crawling on the floor, perhaps watching 2D flat cartoons showing on TV. Back then, nobody talked about animated films, maybe that started in the 1990s. (Read more...)

OurWorldTalks - July 14, 2008 - 20:15

Here's something for you to ponder on. It's interesting, so read it. The Rendezvous Dilemma can be stated by the following: Two young people have a date in a park they have never been to before. Arriving separately in the park, they are both surprised to discover that it is a huge area and consequently they cannot find one another. In this situation each person has to choose between waiting in a fixed place in the hope that the other will find them, or else starting to look for the other in the hope that they have chosen to wait somewhere. Amazon FINE for providing FREE SHIPPING!

OurWorldTalks - July 12, 2008 - 20:37

Can you believe it? Amazon was actually fine for providing free shipping in France. I was absolutely shocked when I came across this news. “France would be the only country in the world where the free delivery practiced by Amazon would be declared illegal,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos wrote to French customers in a recent e-mail.

The problem lies not French consumers, but with a union. A French booksellers’ union took Amazon to court for its practices, claiming free shipping violated the 1981 Lang Law, which sets minimum prices that retailers can charge for books. (Read more...)

Have you ever seen how someone could use 20 monitors at their workstation? Try looking at the picture and count how many monitors are there. Now imagine if you are using 20 monitors at your workstation, will that be efficient for you? or will it be even worst off then what you have now?

Measuring risk using a cartoon character, plus a bowl of ice and a grill

OurWorldTalks - July 1, 2008 - 22:05

If you put someone's feet in a bowl of ice and his head under the grill, his feet will be frozen and his head burned, but on average, his body temperature will remain "normal". This image is often used to convey the dangers of using averages to represent a large volume of information.

Think about this for a second and maybe you could apply the principle to your life as well. Share with us in the comments below.
